Vozinha got a street named after him in Cape Verde. Argentina brought 50,000 people to Miami. But the one who engaged the most this week was the last one you'd expect.

What the data said

  • 01

The Japan nobody saw winning — Ancelotti was tested, Japan threw a party, and while the whole world debated whether Brazil deserved to advance, the Japanese national team's photos went viral for a completely different reason: pure connection with the fans. The ER reached 23.8% — the highest of any photo of the week, across any national team in the world.

  • 02

Cape Verde: the hero got a street, the engagement broke records — Vozinha stopped Argentina long enough to earn a street named after him back home. The Blue Sharks' historic campaign didn't stay just in the headlines: on July 5, Cape Verde was nº 1 in engagement both in photos and reels — something teams with tens of millions of followers couldn't manage all week.

  • 03

Senegal fell, but it was felt — Nicolas Jackson denied he had been drinking, Mané and Koulibaly were in crisis behind the scenes, and Belgium went through. Even so, Senegal delivered the most efficient post of the entire week in reels: 48.0% VER — almost half of everyone who saw it, liked it. Defeat on the pitch, victory in the feed.

  • 04

Mexico: dominance beyond debate — Aguirre said goodbye with pride, the brewery's stock dropped 4% after the elimination, and even so Mexico accumulated 75 appearances in the top-10 of the week — more than France, Portugal and Argentina combined on their best days. Nobody dominated TikTok like them, with an ER of 33.6% on the most engaged post on the platform.

The contrast

Portugal had the most liked post of the week — 1.8 million likes — and the most watched reel, with 40 million views. Numbers no other national team came close to. But in the engagement ranking, Portugal doesn't appear even once. The audience watched. Japan, Senegal and Cape Verde were *felt*.

What to watch

Cape Verde vs. Argentina in the round of 16 promises to be the most uneven matchup on paper — and possibly the most engaged of the tournament. If the Blue Sharks were already top-1 before the game, just imagine after.
