How we rank

What goes into each ranking, and why we measure it this way. No black box.

Engagement Rate (ER)

(Likes + Comments) ÷ Followers × 100

For photos and carousels. We add up likes and comments and divide by the account's followers. It's the same math the whole industry uses, so any account can be compared to any other.

Video Engagement Rate (VER)

(Likes + Comments) ÷ Views × 100

For Reels. Here we divide by views, not followers, a video can reach far more people than the account has followers. Views show who actually watched.

TikTok Engagement Rate (TER)

(Likes + Comments + Shares) ÷ Views × 100

Same as Reels, plus shares. On TikTok shares are public (on Instagram they aren't), and a share is one of the strongest signs the content landed.

Equal weights, on purpose

A like, a comment and a share all count the same. No secret formula, no hidden weighting, a simple rate anyone can check and compare.

What we don't track

Only public numbers count. Saves are out (Instagram doesn't show them), and so are Instagram shares, on TikTok they're visible, so there they count.

What counts as a day

A day is a full day, measured in each account's own time zone, so every team gets the same 24 hours, wherever they are.

Frequently asked questions

Which football club has the highest engagement rate on Instagram?

It changes every day. DataFootball ranks the football clubs and national teams whose content works best each day, by engagement rate, likes and views across Instagram and TikTok. See today's ranking on the homepage.

What is engagement rate and how is it calculated?

Engagement rate (ER) measures how much an audience reacts to a post. For photos, ER = (likes + comments) ÷ followers × 100. For videos and reels, it is (likes + comments) ÷ views × 100. On TikTok, shares are also included.

How does DataFootball rank clubs and national teams?

Every day we rank public posts by engagement, likes and views across Instagram and TikTok. Sponsored posts are excluded and each account is capped at three posts in a top 10, so one viral post can't dominate the list.

Why rank by engagement instead of followers?

Because engagement is what shows the content actually working, how much the audience likes, comments and shares, not just how many follow. It's the standard rate the whole industry uses, so any account compares fairly to any other, big or small.

Which national team wins on social media?

The national teams ranking is updated daily, ordering teams by engagement, likes and views across Instagram and TikTok.

Where does DataFootball's data come from?

From public post metrics (likes, comments, views, shares) collected every day from the official Instagram and TikTok accounts of the clubs and national teams we monitor.
