Egypt was robbed (or not), but one thing is certain: no fanbase reacted stronger than theirs this week.

What the data said

  • 01

The mayor of New York said Egypt was robbed against Argentina. The internet exploded. And while everyone debated VAR, the Egypt national team quietly posted the most efficient photo of the entire week — 45.4% ER, in a tournament dominated by giants with 100× more followers.

  • 02

Merino knocked Portugal out of the Cup in the last minute, Ronaldo left without an answer, and Spain celebrated with a reel that converted 12.1% of views into likes — above Portugal, who had the most-watched video of the entire week with 27.5 million views. Watching is not feeling.

  • 03

Maná performed at halftime during Mexico's match, 'predicted' the elimination and instantly became a meme. The Mexican fanbase turned the embarrassment into content — and Mexico's TikTok finished the week with 33.3% ER, the fourth-best overall engagement across all platforms.

  • 04

Argentina broke Egypt's heart in a 'classic Cup match' and still dominated the entire Saturday: photo, reel and TikTok — everything number 1 in engagement on day 11. Julián Álvarez is getting ready for the semifinal, and the fanbase is already in final mode.

The contrast

Portugal had the most-watched video of the week — 27.5 million views. But when it comes to measuring who was truly *felt*, Egypt (with a fraction of the reach) recorded the highest ER in photos. Giant in views, dwarf in connection. Small in followers, giant in engagement. That's exactly what we measure here.

What to watch

Argentina vs England is coming — historic rivalry, Messi on one side, Joe Cole's taunting on the other. The fanbase is already fired up off the pitch. The engagement from this semifinal could be the highest of the Cup.
